LaNell Hammon Akin, age 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Little River Memorial Hospital. She was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on November 7, 1940, to Edith and William Hammon.

LaNell was a woman whose presence could brighten any room and whose joyful spirit brought happiness to everyone around her. She will be remembered for her kind heart, her gentle spirit, and the love she so freely shared with others. Some of her favorite things were reading a good book- she was quick to give a "book report" on the many books she read to those who were willing to listen, spending time in her garden, and camping. She enjoyed playing "Skipbo" and "Shanghai" both challenging card games.

On March 11, 1957, at just sixteen years old, LaNell became a pastor's wife, to Reverend Roy J. Akin, beginning a lifetime of faithful service to the Lord. They served over fifty years with the Arkansas Assembly of God Ministries, and she was a member of the DeQueen First Assembly of God Church. She cherished the life God had given her and was always quick to give Him credit for the many blessings she received throughout her journey. Her faith was an important part of who she was, and she devoted her life to serving others.

LaNell graduated nursing school on May 17, 1988, working for Wadley Regional Medical Hospital. She later retired from nursing and found great fulfillment in caring for others. She had a special gift for making people feel loved and cared for. Her compassion and willingness to serve left a lasting impression on many lives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edith and William Hammon; her beloved husband of sixty-three years, Reverend Roy J. Akin; her son, Reverend Roy D. Akin; and her daughter, Connie Jean Bolton; siblings: Edgar Hammon, Chris Hammon, Ross Hammon, Loyd Hammon, Erma Hammon, Ruth Mazzy, Sylvia Starknaker, Edna Whitaker, Shirley Schultz, Lou Howard, and Norma Denton.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter-in-law, Debbie Akin of DeQueen, Arkansas; brother-in-law, Carl (Sharon) Akin of Texarkana, Texas; and her four grandchildren, Malorie Akin, Kyle Akin, Natalie Smith, and Nathan Bolton; and great-grandchildren: Kimber Smith and Zoielynn Smith.
