Officials searching for man missing in Sulphur River

First responders from across the Ark-La-Tex are searching for a man that went missing in the Sulphur River near Smith Park Tuesday evening.

According to officials three people were wading in the Sulphur River Tuesday evening when one of them went into deeper water and disappeared.

According to Miller County Chief Deputy Mike McQuerrey, the search was suspended at 4 a.m. Wednesday morning. Miller County Office of Emergency Management is now coordinating a recovery effort for the missing man.

Searching resumed 10 a.m. Wednesday morning with the Bowie County Dive Team and an Arkansas Game and Fish Dive Team assisting in the search.

Genoa, Bright Star, Pleasant Hill, and Fouke Volunteer Fire Department personnel are also on scene.

The Corps of Engineers has closed the gates at Lake Wright Patman to lower the level of the river.

The Salvation Army and Red Cross are also on scene providing drinks and meals to the searchers.
