Man in custody after attempting to rob E-Z Mart with a machete

A man is in custody for Aggravated Robbery after allegedly attempting to rob E-Z Mart on E. 9th Street with a machete.

Just after midnight Wednesday Texarkana Arkansas Police Officers responded to a robbery at 3401 East 9th Street, E-Z Mart. The caller advised a suspect armed with a machete entered the store and demanded everyone to lie on the floor.

According to police after an unsuccessful attempt to rob the clerk, the suspect fled on foot toward Interstate 49.

While responding to the area, Officer Tanner Freeman and Corporal John Gibbert located the suspect hiding under the Interstate 49 overpass on East 9th Street.

The suspect, 30-year-old Shawn Pettit, was taken into custody and the machete was recovered. Police say after further investigation Pettit was charged with aggravated robbery, as well as 5 counts of aggravated assault.

No one was injured during this incident.
