The Texas A&M University-Texarkana Eagles men’s and women’s tennis teams will face off against the Jacksonville College Jaguars of Jacksonville, Texas, in their spring season openers Friday, Feb. 3, at 4 p.m. at the Texas High School tennis facility, 4249 Summerhill Road, Texarkana, Texas.
“I am really excited about this upcoming tennis season,” said A&M-Texarkana Head Tennis Coach Billy Power. “Each team has been putting in a lot of work in the gym to build strength, endurance and flexibility towards their game. We have had great competitive practices that made each player better. The players have been really motivated to be better this year and are looking forward to seeing it pay off.”
The Eagles men’s team has added experience to the roster with the transfer of two-time Arkansas High School 5A State Champion Cole Guy of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, from NCAA Division I Oral Roberts University.
“I am excited to be here this semester to help make the team stronger, and I am looking forward to the season starting,” said Guy, a sophomore.
Members of the women’s team are ready for play, as well.
“I am ready to get started and playing. I haven’t felt in better shape in my life and have prepared hard for this upcoming season,” said Natalie Keylon, a sophomore from Cedar Hill, Texas.
A&M-Texarkana is a new member of the Red River Athletic Conference.
The Jaguar men’s team is ranked 13th and the women’s team is ranked 17th in the 2016-17 Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Junior/Community College Tennis Rankings.
