Highway 71 remains closed despite the Red River cresting 5 feet below the record crest in early June.

According to the National Weather Service the Red River has crested and is now on the fall in the Texarkana area.  NWS forecasts indicate that Highway 71 could open as early as tomorrow.

Highway 71 closed Friday, June 26 after being closed for two weeks when it had to close on May 29 due to flooding.

U.S. 259 remains closed since May 27 when flood water forced TxDOT to close it.  Damages from the first round of flooding were just being assessed when the second round of flooding came.

Lake Texoma was reported 108 percent full at 641.36 feet as of Sunday at 4 p.m.
