Some area roads reopen as water recedes

Area roads are starting to reopen as the flood water start to recede. Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma highway departments are monitoring the flooded roads and checking for damage as the water lowers.

FM 2253 – OPEN

The Texas Department of Transportation has reopened FM 2253 today north of Leary to FM 559 after floodwaters receded back below the roadway and no severe damages were found.

U.S. Route 259 – CLOSED

Engineers from the TxDOT district office inspected the bridge and highway yesterday and found some extensive damage to the approach leading up to the bridge on the Texas side and a lot of damage to the pavement on the Oklahoma side. There is also some water still over the highway on the Oklahoma side. TxDOT will be contacting the Federal Highway Administration today to see about getting emergency funding for the repairs since this is a US highway.

Highway 8/41 – OPEN

Reopened Saturday, June 6.

Highway 71 – CLOSED

Water still covers the roadway on the Arkansas side.  Arkansas highway crews will have to inspect the roadway after water recedes.   Friday would be the EARLIEST we expect the highway to reopen.
