Tonight, on Tuesday, October 4th, 2016, citizens in neighborhoods across Texarkana, Texas and Texarkana, Arkansas will be turning their lights on and getting together with friends and neighbors for an evening outside to celebrate the 33rd Annual National Night Out.

The National Night Out has proven to be an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program to promote “neighborhood spirit” and “community partnerships”.

National Night Out, a year-long community building campaign, is designed to: (1) Heighten crime prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Representatives from the Police Department, Fire Department, and City Hall will be available for questions. Locals will be able to voice concerns about police services in their neighborhood.

“Together, we intend to send a strong message to criminals that our neighborhoods are organized and will not tolerate illegal activities,” explained Texarkana Texas Police Department. “We ask that everyone turn on their porch light, lock their doors, and spend time outside visiting with their neighbors.”
