Mrs. Oscar Stokes Mathis, age 99, passed peacefully on Saturday, January 2, 2021.
Oscar was born August 21, 1921 in Maud, Texas to parents, Martin Oscar and Dora Stokes. She married Horace Clifford Mathis in 1936.
She is preceded in death by her parents, 8 siblings, her husband Horace, her son, Wilber Gene, and her granddaughter, Deborah K. Jenkins.
Survivors include her children, Mickey Jenkins Mackey and husband, Harold, Joyce St. Marie, Sybil Harville, Cliff Mathis, Marsha Stinson, Marilyn Lamb and husband Bobby; her grandchildren, Kippy Jenkins, Scott Jenkins, John Harvey, Leslie Berry, Neelie Smith, Nikki Mathis, Rebekka Bruce, Taylor Burton, Aaron Burton, Clint Stinson, Cassi Stinson, Lance Lamb, and Ryan Lamb. She is also survived by 24 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Oscar will always be remembered for her kindness, strength, lifelong dedications to God, her family and her church, The Church of God of Prophecy. She has gone to be in the presence of the Lord and as the matriarch of our family, we will always miss her.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at Chapelwood Funeral Home in Nash, Texas. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
